Power Partner℠ Program Helps Keep Rates Low

Helping manage energy demand during our hot Austin summers has never been easier.

The Power Partner Program is a voluntary program that enables Austin Energy to manage energy use when demand is at its highest, usually hot summer days. Enrolling in this program helps ensure that our community has enough power to go around, especially when it’s needed the most.

Seasonal Offer!
Between November 27, 2020 and January 31, 2021, you can earn the biggest rebate of the year, up to $155, when you install a smart thermostat and join the Power Partner program! Get $25 just for purchasing and installing a qualifying Wi-Fi thermostat. Then, get a $130* incentive (normally $85) for each eligible thermostat you enroll in our voluntary Power Partner program, which helps the whole community save energy and money.

What Is the Power Partner Program?

The Power Partner Program is a community-wide coordination of air conditioning usage that allows Austin Energy to manage energy use during peak summer days when it matters the most.

During a Power Partner event Austin Energy will adjust the temperature setting on your Internet-connected thermostat. Temperature adjustments up to four degrees reduce usage when the energy and cost savings are needed the most community-wide, yet do not significantly impact comfort.

How Does the Power Partner Program Help?

The Power Partner Program helps lower the overall cost of electricity in the community, and ensures each person receives the needed amount of energy. Participating in the Power Partner Program helps prevent power outages, and benefits the community by reducing the need to acquire additional power generation.

What Happens During a Power Partner Event?

During a Power Partner event, Austin Energy will adjust the temperature setting on your Wi-Fi thermostat by 2 to 4 degrees. Power Partner Program events occur:

  • During summer months, between June 1 – September 30.
  • Only on weekdays, not on weekends or holidays.
  • Between 3:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m., and lasting no more than 2 hours.
  • No more than 25 times per summer.

Austin Energy appreciates our customers who join us in this effort to responsibly meet community energy demand.

How Will I Know A Power Partner Event Is Starting?

Austin Energy will send a message before the event begins and a reminder during the event. The message will appear in your thermostat app and on the thermostat display itself. You may also notice your house getting cooler just before Austin Energy begins an event. Pre-cooling allows you to remain more comfortable during the event period and allows Austin Energy to maximize community results when they are needed most.

How Long Will My AC Run at a Higher Thermostat Setting?

Austin Energy will adjust your thermostat between 2-4 degrees during the event. Power Partner Program events only occur Mondays through Fridays, and typically last two hours during the late afternoons.

When Does Austin Energy Typically Run Power Partner Events?

Events typically occur on no more than 25 summer days between June and September, between the hours of 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m., to ensure everyone is able to stay cool. Austin Energy does not perform Power Partner events on weekends or holidays.

Can I Opt Out of a Power Partner Event?

Yes. Participation in events is voluntary. You can manually opt out of any event via thermostat, smartphone, or other Web access.

How Can I Monitor My Ongoing Energy Use?

Use Austin Energy’s free, interactive web app on your mobile device or personal computer to monitor your daily energy consumption, set tier alerts, view your bill history, and forecast your energy bill cost. You can also access practical conservation tips and make same-day changes to adjust your energy use and save money.

How Else Can I Save Money on My Electric Bills?

You may qualify for other rebates and loans to help pay for energy-efficient cooling and heating upgrades.

*Incentive increases to $130 from November 27, 2020 until January 31, 2021. After that, it returns to $85.
